Dateline Dayton – Last Tuesday evening, our granddaughter Ashley graduated from Madison High School in nearby Middletown, a wonderful event, and she received many honors. We are proud of her accomplishments and activities throughout her high school years.
Her goals were ambitious:
- Not to miss one day of classes, and
- To graduate with straight A’s.
She achieved the first, but barely missed the second, one B+ while taking advanced courses. She did graduate Magna Cum Laude, and she was a member of the National Honor Society.
For graduation, we provided her a box containing some of the necessities for attending the College of Wooster, midway between Mansfield and Canton, in north-central Ohio. Our box contains toilet paper, paper towels, soap, quarters for the laundromat, paper for the printer, pencils, and notebooks. I enclosed a wind-up alarm clock. Old-fashioned, I realize, but it is reliable – if you don’t forget to wind. No reason for her to be late for class. I also enclosed money for snacks and other needs.
Meanwhile, Back Home
Tomorrow I will be working a garage sale that a friend of mine is having. He invited me to participate, and since I have items I want to sell, I accepted. Actually the sale was to take place last weekend, but early in the week, after hearing the weather forecast, he decided to postpone it.
The date change appeared to be a smart move as Hamvention was last weekend, which almost always guarantees rain. Although most of Friday was dry, it rained in the late evening while we were out with friends for supper. Saturday it rained a little in the morning while we were attending our granddaughter’s soccer games. It was beautiful, though, the rest of the day.
We worked in the yard after we got home from the soccer games and took a trip to the market. Sunday was a little cloudy in the morning, but it turned into a pretty day. After church in Piqua, and breakfast with my brother and sister, we were back in the yard, planting flowers and cutting grass. Hamvention actually had a great weekend, and we should have held our garage sale, although this coming weekend does work better for me.
The weather for this weekend looks promising. So far. No rain in the forecast, and temperatures will be on the cooler side. That is great as long as everyone doesn’t decide it’s the right time to work the yard.
My friend Dan, who is hosting the sale, has a lot of tools and fishing gear. I have the first group, of many, of Pauline’s brother’s books and other possessions, including National Cash Register items I purchased from the sale I wrote about a couple months back.
In addition, I have three cash registers and three cash drawers in the sale, along with other items. Hopefully next week I will be able to report good results.
