Dateline Dayton — Since I have been doing these essays, they have always been my thoughts, comments and stories, sometimes with help from items I might have come across or research done on a particular subject matter.

This week I will deviate. I want to share with you an essay my granddaughter wrote for a school assignment. I was really impressed by how much she thought of her brother, even though they do fight now and then, as sisters and brothers are expected

My Michigan Hero

Who is my hero? Well, I can’t find my hero on the movie screen or on the red carpet. I can just find him at home because my hero is my big brother, Ryan Casey. I can’t use just one word to describe my brother. I must use many words to describe him. Words like smart, athletic, and confident. He is an amazing person and does many great things. My brother is a great teacher, a good helper, and is always there for me.

Ryan is an amazing teacher. When I was little, he taught me how to play soccer. We both love to play the game. He taught me how to kick the ball and how to pass. To this day Ryan teaches me new moves, fakes, and tricks to do with the soccer ball. On top of that, he teaches me how to enjoy life. Since Ryan is amused by the littlest things it makes me love little things. I learned to make those little things count. Also Ryan taught me how to get over my fears. He teaches me that the things won’t hurt me.

When I need help, all I have to do is get Ryan. He is an amazing helper. Homework is what he assists best at. He helps me when I don’t get my homework, mostly math. He is additionally helpful when it comes to lifting because he is so strong. He helps me move furniture in my room. When my grandfather brought me a bunk-bed, he helped me put it together because it was too heavy for me. Ryan can also be known as a handyman. When something is broken, he is the one to call or to yell to from my room. Ryan has his famous quote that he always says “I’m Ryan, I fix things.” He can fix almost anything. I am grateful for my brother because he fixed my phone after I dropped it in the toilet.

Ryan is a good brother because he is always there for me. He makes me smile and laugh very often. Even though it may be about something stupid, he still makes me laugh. Plus when I get hurt he is always there to see if I am all right. It may be his fault I’m hurt and he will most likely laugh at first but he will see if I’m okay. He is also always there to encourage me. It makes me happy when he is there to tell me to do my best and when he cheers me on.

My Michigan hero is my big brother Ryan Casey. We can be mean to each other at times and mess with each other but it’s what siblings do. My brother has made a big impact on my life, and I plan to keep it that way. I want to be more like him when I get older. He is just an outstanding person. I love him and I am proud to call him my hero and my brother.
