A combination BBQ-yard sale-fundraiser for Robert Zirgulis, School Board candidate and for Rescue Education California, attracted about 200 people last Saturday.

“We were swamped in the morning by bargain hunters getting deals for a good cause,” Mr. Zirgulis said.
“Kids were donating 10 cents to get a stuffed teddy bear. Tee-shirts and dishware sold for a quarter, old records and cds for fifty cents.
“Teachers, Classified employees, CCUSD employees and students all were given a 50 percent discount on every item purchased, including burgers and hotdogs,” the candidate said.
“Although we didn’t get any high-rollers to come to the fundraiser, we did get 44 people to sign the petition for Prop. 1481, the Oil Extraction Tax to Rescue Education.
“Many people don’t realize California is the only major oil-producing state that has no tax on oil extracted. “This initiative will bring $3 billion to our schools without letting the oil companies pass on the tax to the people.”
Mr. Zirgulis said that “about 100 books didn’t sell, and so I will be donating them to the Culver Unified City School District.”
