City Councilman Scott Malsin, running for a second term, announced today that both County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky and MTA board member Pam O’Connor, two working colleagues and prominent leaders on transportation issues, have endorsed his campaign for the April 13 election..
Supervisor Yaroslavsky serves with the Councilman as a board member of the Westside Cities Council of Governments and the Expo Line Construction Authority. He is also a member of the MTA Board. “Every day it becomes more evident that the only way forward is through regional cooperation,” Mr. Yaroslavsky said. “As chair of the Westside Cities Council of Governments, Scott has been a consensus builder, a strong and effective advocate for regional solutions to the gridlock that impacts us all. His leadership means a lot to the region, not just to Culver City.”
Similarly, Ms. O’Connor, Santa Monica’s Mayor Pro-Tem as well as a member of the MTA Board and the Expo Construction Authority, said she values Mr. Malsin’s leadership. “Scott brings a special combination of vision and smarts to the Expo meetings,” she said. “He’s a very effective advocate for Culver City.”
Mr. Malsin said that while “the state and County have allocated $50 million to make the Culver City Expo line aerial station a reality, we must continue to aggressively seek federal, state and county funding for transportation projects. Regional problems require regional solutions. Working with our regional partners, we can make a difference.”
To illustrate that point, Mr. Malsin pointed to the interjurisdictional working group he helped create, a partnership with the city and County of Los Angeles. The group has created a list of high-priority short- and long-term projects. Work is expected to begin on some of them this year.
“Zev and Pam have provided strong leadership, bringing our region together and moving it forward,” Mr. Malsin said.
Meanwhile, the next event for the Councilman is a “Cast Party” fundraiser on Saturday, Jan. 30, in the commissary of the Culver Studios,9336 W. Washington Blvd., starting at 6:30. Tickets, $45 per person, are available online at www.Vote4Scott.org or by calling the campaign hotline at 310.945.5499.
