Re “Enthusiastically Backed, the Zeidman (Permit) Plan Is About to Become Airborne

As the School Board prepares to vote, perhaps as soon as this month, on member Scott Zeidman’s plan for downsizing Culver City schools through permit reductions, he is floating an additional suggestion he hopes will elevate scholastic standards.

He would require transfer candidates to have a 2.7 grade point average to minimally qualify, and then to maintain a 2.7 in order to remain in Culver City schools.

Present policy is decidedly looser.

School District Supt. Dr. Myrna Rivera Cote may accept out-of-district transfers who have attained a 2.5 grade point average and not received any F grades.

To remain in Culver City, they only need to post a modest 2.0 GPA.

“I want to make our schools the best they can be,” Mr. Zeidman said this morning while unveiling his strategy for enriching standards.

“If we are going to be downsizing, we should choose the best students.”

Mr. Zeidman stressed in his message that there is no urgency in his informal request.
