Somewhere in the world this afternoon, sparks of stern disagreement are flying – probably from Kaizuka, Japan, where School Board President Karlo Silbiger is traveling with a Sister Cities delegation, all the way to City Hall on Culver Boulevard.
Council Chambers in City Hall is the site of tonight’s 7 o’clock School Board meeting where members will be defying the wishes of Mr. Silbiger to defer action on a fracking resolution until he completes his month of traveling.
Emphatically no, decided Vice President Kathy Paspalis, who firmly has commanded the Board in Mr. Silbiger’s absence, going into the final meeting until September.
Fracking is a sizzling topic of immense consuming interest to Mr. Silbiger.
The resolution below is expected to breezily pass after the mid-meeting recess:
Approval is recommended for Resolution No. 1-2012/2013 – A Resolution of the Culver City Unified School District Board of Trustees decidedly urging the state of California, Dept. of Conservation, Division of Oil, Gas & Geothermal Resources (DOGGR) to place a ban on hydraulic fracturing (fracking), and urging the California Legislature to pass AB 972 forthwith. In addition, the CCUSD Board of Trustees strongly encourages the City Council to consider a local ban on fracking.
