Re “Karlo Needs Help of Voters to Accomplish His Next Goal”

Immediately, he turned pragmatic.

“Two things come to mind,” said the youngest person ever elected. “First, I learned the art of patience.  It is very tough to learn when you are sitting in the audience, even though it looks as though it should be easy.

“Any change you make, it seems as if it should be easy to accomplish.

“Once you are a member of the School Board, or any organization,” Mr. Silbiger said, “and you see exactly how many steps go into making a change, even a simplistic change…”

Are the steps necessary or are they awash in bureaucracy?

“They are a mix,” he said. “Part of it is everyone doing his or her due diligence, making sure decisions are made carefully.

“Part of it is, some people in every organizational are a little territorial.  They want to protect what they have. So you have to negotiate, trying to find ways to settle the issue.

“Secondly, I learned the real importance of communicating with the broader community.

“We have regular attendees at Board meetings. But they are a very small portion of the population.  A lot of people out there don’t know what is going on.

“I really have tried to push out information, in hopes that will speed up the process, but also to make sure we don’t get an incredible amount of blowback later on for decisions that are made.”
