With twin nudges from former Mayor Alan Corlin and Friends of the Library President Wanda Anesh, here is a splendid outing for the whole family at 5 o’clock Saturday at the Julian Dixon Library, 4975 Overland Ave.:

It is time for the Friends of the Library’s every-summer attraction, “Culver City Reads,” billed as a Charlotte’s Web Pajama Party.

When the library doors open, pizza and drinks will be available for purchase and the Fire Dept. will be present to distribute popcorn. There will be games, raffles and a sale of gently used children's books.

At 6:30, the Friends will screen “Charlotte's Web” in the main library. Children are encouraged to bring sleeping bags and pillows. There is no charge for this event. www.ccfol.org.

Ms. Anesh adds that Star Eco Station will be at the library with their tarantulas for anyone who missed them the first time

Saturday, July 24

A very special classic 1929 film, “Hallelujah,” will be screened at 4 o’clock at the Mayme Clayton Library Museum, 4130 Overland Ave., across from the Vets Auditorium.

Lloyd Clayton and Lecil D. Wills will make special presentations.

The museum spokespersons tell us:

“Hallelujah, directed by King Vidor, is a cinematic musical talkie (an early sound film) about the life of an African-American sharecropper who falls deeply for a temptress who eventually is faced with a life changing experience. This film features an all African-American cast that is infused with spirituals, folk songs, blues, and jazz. See how Zeke’s (Daniel L. Haynes) life quickly unravels after a string of tumultuous experiences dealing with passion, loss, love, and redemption.
