[Editor’s Note: The City Councilman, in the second month of his first full term, is energized to launch Culver City’s centennial celebration.]

Early Tuesday morning, my colleagues on the City Council approved the establishment of the Culver City Centennial Celebration Committee (a 501c3 non-profit organization) to help with the planning, carrying out and coordinating of projects, events and activities for our city's centennial. It will culminate on Sept. 20, 2017.

The first business is to appoint a board of directors, between five and seven Culver City residents. They will adopt the bylaws of the organization and get the committee going.  If you are interested in serving on the board, fill out and return the attached board application form.

We will be seeking interest from residents and non-residents who work in Culver City, who provide services to Culver City, who wish to serve on various subcommittees. If this appeals, fill out and return the attached subcommittee application form.

If you or your organization have an idea for a project, event or activity tied to the Centennial and occurring between September 2016 and September 2017, submit the attached activity application form. It can be an existing activity or a new idea.  I have already received more than 25 suggestions, a great start. If inspired, add more.  We want a full active calendar that promotes Culver City and our history.

I anticipate the first meeting of the board occurring in July. Thereafter, we would meet monthly, more frequently as needed. Subcommittees will commence whenever there is significant interest.

The Centennial Committee will enter into a memorandum of understanding with the city that will spell out duties.  I have indicated to the city our intention to produce a work plan, timeline, proposed preliminary event calendar and budget by the end of this year.

Share this message with others. I look forward to your involvement.
