A longtime stalwart of the Community Budget Advisory Committee, the ebullient Mr. Elmont said he was “disappointed that the (School District) administration did not allow CBAC to weigh in on whether a bond measure or parcel tax might be the better vehicle. “

Does that mean Mr. Elmont prefers a parcel tax?

“No,” he said succinctly.  “It means I see the need for the funds.

“We have elected these people and entrusted them with a responsibility of making the best decisions on the best vehicle.

“The need for the ($106 million bond measure) is undeniable.

“I have no information that would allow me to weigh in on one vs. the other,” Mr. Elmont said.

Reflecting on last summer’s upset loss by the first bond proposed and the present one.

“This time there does not appear to  be a political pawn for election purposes,” Mr. Elmont said.  “It does not appear the decision is being used as a political pawn as appeared to be the case last time.” His oblique reference was to Karlo Silbiger, leader of last summer’s uprising who lost his re-election bid last summer.

“That is the appearance that I took,” Mr. Elmont said, “although I am sure Karlo would disagree.

Does he have any doubt the bond measure will fly to victory in 100 days?

“If I were a betting man,” Mr. Elmont said, “I would probably give the bond measure an 80 -20 percent chance of passing.

“Last time I gambled, we had twins.”
