After a year of absence, the Exchange Club’s Fourth of July Fireworks Show will resume at West Los Angeles College this evening in spite of a protest from Culver Crest neighbors worried about fire potential. Gates open at 4. Fireworks start shooting at dusk.

Traditionally, the event has been held at Culver City High School, across the street from the home of Andi Alexander, one of the most important boosters of the school community. Construction last year and this summer at the high school have necessitated a change of venue by the sponsoring Culver City Exchange Club.

Guests are welcome to bring a picnic basket and a blanket. Since the main seating area will be artificial turf, chairs with sharp edges are prohibited as are pets, alcoholic beverages and smoking. There will be plenty of food vendors, including favorites such as the Santa Maria Barbecue, Jackson Market and Tub's Chili.

Starting at 6, Rob Canove and Playback will entertain with their classic rock stylings. Raffle tickets will be sold for prizes that include a big screen television, an aerial tour of Los Angeles, a luxury hotel stay. Games and attractions for the kids also will be there.

Grandstand seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Handicapped-accessible seating and parking are available.

Suggested donations are $5 per person and $1 for children under 6. For drive-ins, $5 per person in the vehicle up to $20. Parking is limited. Carpooling is encouraged. Show admission is included in the parking fee.

The Exchange Club donates proceeds from this event to the community in the form of grants and scholarships to students and organizations such as the School District, the Culver City Youth Health Center, the Culver-Palms Family YMCA, and the booster clubs at all Culver City schools.
