A telephone call to Culver City High School in mid-morning never reached, or came anywhere close, to its destination.
When the caller named a party, the voice on the other end paused and inquired:
“Is this about The Rape?”
No, she was told.
Nevertheless, nervous School District administrators and teachers, wary, are under orders to remain silent until further notice. Not anytime soon.
The asserted victim, a former Culver High student 14 years old at the time, December 2013, said that three football players raped her on repeated occasions on campus during school hours. Culver City police believed her. After extensive interviews, they turned over the evidence against all three boys to the District Attorney. However, the D.A.’s office disagreed, believing the two younger were not guilty because they felt the girl wanted to have sex.
Meanwhile, the New York Daily News is reporting three previously undisclosed facts:
- The girl’s civil lawsuit, filed last Wednesday against the School District, faults the high school for failing to monitor the parking lot where the girl was assaulted.
- The suit says the School District should have known the girl’s attackers had a history of disciplinary problems. If they have records, they have not been disclosed.
- The girl not only is suing the three boys and the School District but 100 bullies who taunted her after the attack.
