Around the campus of El Rincon School, students are being urged to keep an eye to the sky because on Friday, a UFO is scheduled to touch down.
The UFO is part of El Rincon’s Space Week that will culminate with a visit from the Traveling Space Museum. Throughout the entire school day, students will be treated to a variety of activities including Astro-Jeopardy, a chance to taste space foods like Tang and a tour of a UFO where students actually can climb inside.

Docents from the Traveling Space Museum along with community volunteers will be stationed at each attraction to give students a quick lecture on the exhibit and answer the students’ questions.
School officials said that what makes the Traveling Space Museum exciting and engaging will be the touch-and-discover philosophy. Students are encouraged to touch and use all of the equipment themselves from flipping switches, turning knobs, using robots and operating the full-scale flight simulator.
“We are excited to have the Traveling Space Museum come to our school,” said El Rincon Principal Leslie Lockhart. “This is going to be a great experience for all of the students to get a hands-on lesson on space and science and get excited about learning.”
Before the Museum visit, however, students will have opportunities to learn about science. Along with focusing on science-specific lessons this week, students can test their science knowledge by reading one of the one hundred brainteasers located throughout the school. Tomorrow, students will display their science projects at the annual science fair.
