Here are two Culver City events of interest in the coming days —

Tuesday evening, the Sister City Committee will host an informational meeting for interested teenagers, and

Sunday, Jan. 30, the Bicycle Coalition will host the first in a monthly series of family bike rides.

Marla Wolkowitz (marlawolkowitz@ca.rr.com) explains the significance of the Sister City meeting:

“We want students for the Culver City Sister City Committee youth/travel program. We invite 13 to 17 year olds to attend Tuesday evening’s 6 o’clock meeting to learn about student exchange programs and a new youth program.

“Young people will learn about cultural and artistic opportunities, art and written word national competitions. They also will have the chance to earn community service hours. Attendees will also learn about a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel to Iksan City, South Korea, this summer as part of a 10-person student exchange for ninth, 10th and 11th graders. The delegates will directly experience the Korean lifestyle, language and culture while living with host families and touring cultural sites in and around Iksan City.

“We will provide applications and cost information at the meeting.

“We will meet at Donna Thayer’s home, 10737 Oregon Ave., from 6 to 8 on Tuesday. To RSVP, call her at 310.839.2546.”

For the Culver City Bicycle Coalition, here is Meghan Sahli-Wells (ccbicyclecoalition@gmail.com), perhaps the community’s most familiar bike rider:

“Starting on Sunday, Jan. 30, at 1o a.m., the Bicycle Coalition will host family bicycle rides on the last Sunday of each month to highlight the best bike routes in Culver City.

“Join us for fun, friendship and exercise in Town Plaza, near the Culver Hotel, where all rides will start and end. The rides will be suitable for children and adults alike. Riders must have their own bikes and helmets.

“At 10, we will gather, sign waivers and make bike adjustments.

“At 11, we will take an easy ride around Culver City (http://tinyurl.com/66rxvk6 for bike route).

“At 12 noon, socialize and eat lunch.

“Our requirements: Bicycle, helmet and a signed waiver for each rider. Please come at 10 so we can have the paperwork done before 11.

“Mark your calendars for the following dates:

“Sunday, Feb. 27, Sunday March 27 (Bunny Ride), Sunday, April 24, Sunday, May 29, Sunday, June 26 (School’s Out Ride), Sunday, July 31, Sunday, Aug. 28 (Ride to Fiesta La Ballona), Sunday, Sept. 25, Sunday, Oct. 30 (Halloween Ride) and Sunday, Nov. 27 (Turkey Ride). No ride in December. It’s Christmas.
