Los Angeles City Attorney Carmen Trutanich has a four-point lead over his nearest rival as he runs for re-election, according to an independent poll conducted by Loyola Marymount University's Center for the Study of Los Angeles.

The poll showed Mr. Trutanich with a 36 to 32 percent lead over state Assemblyman Mike Feuer (presently hospitalized following a car accident yesterday en route to the inauguration of County District Attorney Jackie Lacey).

“This is great news,” said Rick Taylor, Mr. Trutanich's chief strategist.

The poll refutes media speculation that Mr. Feuer is the frontrunner in the race.

“These media perceptions don't hold up when voters are asked who they prefer,” said Mr. Taylor.

“Voters get it – Carmen Trutanich is a real prosecutor, not a career politician.

“The differences were clear in their debate last month in Sherman Oaks. The city attorney asked Feuer if he'd ever prosecuted a case or handled a jury trial. Feuer did not have an answer. That's because Michael Feuer has spent more time being a politician than being a lawyer.

“With Trutanich, you get the real deal,” said Mr. Taylor. “Trutanich was a deputy district attorney for a decade. He prosecuted hundreds of criminal cases, involving gangs and environmental crimes, many of them going before juries.”

After leaving the DA's office, Mr. Trutanich had a successful career in private practice as a litigator.

“Trutanich is at home in the courtroom, and voters and Trutanich's troops in the City Attorney's office appreciate leadership that leads from experience,” Mr. Taylor said.

The Loyola Marymount poll was conducted on the day of the Presidential election. Poll workers asked more than 4,000 persons about their views on local issues.
