After opening with Afro Cuban/salsa sounds and following with Irish rock, soothingly rhythmic Brazilian jazz will be the fare tonight at 7 in the weekly Summer Music Festival series set in the crowded courtyard of City Hall.
Katia Moraes and Sambaguru are the attraction.
Ms. Moraes brings an ensemble of six musicians from Brazil, India, Sri Lanka and the U.S.
Over the years, Summer Music Festival regulars have turned the dynamic Ms. Moraes into one of their favorite entertainers.
She and her band perform a repertoire of Brazilian music with Asian and African influences.
In colorfully discussing an entertainer he calls “that fabulous Brazilian singer, “ concert producer Gary Mandell, who never believes in wasting a good pun, said:
“Ms. Moraes is from Brazil — all regular and no decaf.”
Which may help explain why the performers are on stage longer than the producer.
“But I promise that her electrifying tropical rhythms will turn City Hall into a samba dance experience like people never have seen before,” Mr. Mandell said.
