If you saw the first burst of publicity for tonight’s 7 o’clock Fifth Week performance of the Summer Music Festival in the Courtyard of City Hall, you may not have known whether to reach for silverware or your favorite pair of 1924 spats.
Producer Gary Mandell of Boulevard Music used this headline:
“A Rich Gumbo of Cajun, Zydeco, R & B and Country”
Do you taste it or lean back and drink it in?
Geno Delafose and French Rockin’ Boogie make a return appearance.
Mr. Mandell explains that his Grammy-nominated headliner is from Eunice, deep in the heart of Louisiana’s Bayou Country.
At 38 years old, Mr. Delafose is a 31-year veteran, which is explained this way:
At seven years old, he participated with his father’s band, John Delafose and the Eunice Playboys.
Mr. Mandell says that “Geno has tapped the wealth of inspiration found in the Cajun and Creole repertoires, and he has created the rich gumbo that I have been talking about.”
Halfway through the Summer Music Festival season, the ground may move between 7 and 9 this evening.
