[Editor’s Note: Here is the year-end letter the President of the Assn. of Classified Employees sent to members after last week’s School Board meeting.]

Dear A.C.E. members,

I am happy to announce that at Tuesday night's meeting the School Board approved the restoration of the majority of the positions on the original cut list that were either eliminated or reduced.

The following cut positions: Locksmith, HVAC Technician and Instructional Media Clerk (Secondary IMC) were rescinded. The following reduced positions were brought back to their original hours or months worked: High School Budget Secretary (brought back to 12 months after a reduction to 11), Elementary Library Media Clerks at El Rincon, La Ballona and Farragut were restored to 7 hours (after a reduction to 5), and the Elementary Library Media Clerks at Lin Howe and El Marino were increased to 7 hours from their original 5-hour assignments in order to maintain parity with the other three elementary sites.

The bad news is that our concession of 6 furlough days (giving us $240,000 to spend on the “buy-backs”) was not enough to restore the reductions to the two Adult School positions or rescind the elimination of the Account Clerk III position at the District office.

The District found monies to restore the Food Service Supervisor and MOT Foreman to 12 months following their reduction to 11, but that was not something we funded through our furlough-day concessions.

We will have a general meeting in September when we return from summer break. The ratifications of both the 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 contracts will take place as soon as possible after we return. Our previous Election Committee has fulfilled their two-year commitment to serve, and we are looking for new Election Committee members. If you are interested in serving, please contact me at my home email address: antiquer01@aol.com

My best to everyone.
