The community group called Yes On EE = Educational Excellence came out in full force at Fiesta La Ballona last weekend to talk with residents about the parcel tax (at $96 a year) on the Nov. 3 ballot.

In addition, more than 70 prominent citizens added their endorsement on the new website www.YESonEE.com.

Jody Reichel of the YES on EE publicity committee said that “some of our volunteers were at the YES on EE booth.

“Others, like me, spent hours criss-crossing the grounds, speaking with Culver City residents from across the political spectrum about our common interest in maintaining quality schools. I found two realtors who said they always mention our schools to prospective homebuyers.”

School Board President Jessica Beagles Roos said that “every year at the Fiesta, I meet families with infants and toddlers who have bought houses in Culver City for the School District and many residents who are excited to have their kids starting school in Culver City.”

The new website YesonEE.com attracted 72 new endorsements in three days.

Among the latest additions are former Mayor Alan Corlin, three retired elementary principals who live in Culver City, Barbara Brown, former Principal of Farragut, Rosie La Briola, former Principal of Linwood Howe and Sara Fields, former Principal of El Marino.

Among supporters are PTA and Booster Club officers including former School Board candidate Alan Elmont of the Farragut Fan Club and Community Budget Advisory Committee member; Laura Chardiet, Culver City Council PTA President, Farragut Fan Club President and current Middle School Panther Partner President; Bonnie Wacker, former El Marino ALL President; Nancy Burne.

Yes on EE has received support from a cross-section of parents, educators and seniors in Culver City.

The Measure, if passed by a 2/3 majority, will raise approximately $1.25 million to protect programs in Culver City schools that are threatened due to state mandated budget cuts.

In the last two years, the School District has been forced to cut $6 million from the budget. Next year, another $4 million must be subtracted.
