Mike Bauer, president of the Culver Crest Homeowners Assn., emailed neighbors this morning that “great news” was only a fortnight away.

Three and a half years after the Crest lost Tellefson Road, one of its two main arteries, because of a hillslide during the height of the rainy season, normalcy appears about to be restored.

From Mr. Bauer’s email:

“The Tellefson hillside repair will be completed by early September at the latest. That’s only 2 weeks at the most. That means Tellefson will be open. Let the champagne flow.

“On Monday, the city will be removing the crane that has adorned our skyline.

“In order to do that, Cranks will be closed, from Culview to Tellefson, between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.

“Parking will also be suspended during the move.”

In a succinct email yesterday from City Hall, city engineer Sammy Romo told residents,

“Thank you for your consideration and patience!”

Speaking for the hilltop community as president of the homeowners group, Mr. Bauer said that “we feel a great deal of relief now that this terrible episode is over with.

“Residents who live on that area of the Crest have been inconvenienced.

“But what’s more important, considering there are only twp roads that lead down from the Crest and one of them has been closed, any emergency evacuation would be difficult at best.

“And if Ranch Road was blocked for any reason, there would be no vehicular escape available.

“In addition, this will allow the families that have been evacuated by this to put their lives back together again.”
