About six months from today, around the resumption of the school year, a new 7-Eleven convenience market is expected to open on the rim of the Sunkist Park neighborhood, it was announced at a community meeting last night.
In the parlance of the day, the fifth 7-Eleven in Culver City will be in the changing-faces strip mall at the northwest corner of Berryman Avenue and Sepulveda Boulevard, across the street from former Mayor Albert Vera’s ethnic market. Since the recession struck, vacancies have bobbed up in the mall, and its most visible space is empty.
Throughout a 90-minute smallish assembly of curious and unhappy residents at El Marino Language Immersion School, opinions were noisily voiced — “it was raucous, actually,” said one participant. “We raised objections,” said another woman, “but I am not sure why I went because the store is a done deal.”
The two-generation Ursani family, who said they are incorporated and own five 7-Elevens, plan to open the newest outlet with their youngest son, Fawad, in charge. He gave his email address as fursani@gmail.com
Although he has not yet obtained a license, Mr. Ursani said he is interested in selling beer and white, calculating that will form around about 14 percent of his anticipated $2 million annual revenues.
