Former Mayor Richard Marcus introduced Mayor O'Leary by saying “…four years ago, when our friend Mehaul was running for City Council, I really did not know him. Well, I made an effort to get to know him better. Mehaul impressed me that he was very open, personable, bright, and more importantly, honest. That is why in 2008, I voted for Mehaul O'Leary.

“Now after nearly four years on the City Council, I am very pleased to stand here and say that Mehaul O'Leary is STILL very open, personable, bright and, most importantly, honest.

“… Ladies and gentlemen, our Culver City Mayor Mehaul O'Leary!”

Mr. O'Leary expressed his thanks to all those who came out to support him at the campaign kickoff and his personal appreciation to those thirty Culver City residents who had just signed his nominating papers during the event.

He said that “the most important issue in this campaign will be how to save the Redevelopment Agency in some alternative form. The economic future of Culver City is at stake in this campaign.

“The efforts of past City Councils used the Agency to create the opportunities that brought The Kirk Douglas Theatre, The Actor’s Gang and other theatres into Culver City. Today's prosperous and vibrant Downtown would not be there without Agency efforts.

“We need to remind ourselves and all Culver City residents that the Agency invests in Culver City's future. The Agency provides important funding to our School District. The Agency also has preserved and enhanced the quality of life for all Culver City residents.

“During my campaign, I will be engaging Culver City residents for their ideas, help and support in the effort to save the Culver City Redevelopment Agency for all of Culver City.”
