Gen. Kamala Harris has given the accused Culver City High School Booster Club a fast-approaching deadline to respond to alleged tax and filing fee violations.
The club has until the end of the present week to respond. It appears no answer yet has been filed with Sacramento.
The letter (download here) from Ms. Harris framed a potential suspension this way:
“Based on the violations set forth below, the registration of Culver City High School Boosters, Inc. will be suspended or revoked unless the enclosed written appeal is received within 30 calendar days of the date of this notice. If we do not receive a written appeal, your registration will be suspended or revoked, and you will no longer be permitted to conduct business in the State of California.”
In a 400-word letter dated Nov. 19 and signed by registrar Kevis Foley for Ms. Harris, three past-due types of charges were lodged against the Booster Club:
• Failure to file tax returns for three fiscal years ending in 2009-10-11,
• Failure to file registration renewal fee in 2009, and
• Failure to provide the $75 renewal for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2012.
Lloyd Dixon, who succeeded Steve Stautzenbach on July 1 last year as president of the Booster Club, told the newspaper this morning:
“I am not aware of (the letter) right now, but I think I know where that letter is, and I am going to go find it.”
