Bob Sprague, Vice President for Academic Affairs and a longtime fixture on campus, has been selected as the new Interim President of West Los Angeles College.
He succeeds Dr. Mark Rocha, whose four-year term ends Wednesday before he takes over as President of Pasadena City College.
Mr. Sprague’s promotion was described as “not a big surprise.”
“Bob represents the best in continuity of college activities in the last three decades,” John Jordan, retired Chair of West’s Media Arts Division, told the newspaper this morning.
“He will definitely keep the college on course.”
In the history of West L.A. College, hardly anyone knows the campus, the administration, the culture and all of the attendant nuances as intimately as Mr. Sprague.
An English teacher by trade, a grant writer by avocation, quiet and introspective by nature, he has held a variety of titles, dating back to Dean of Instruction.
Mr. Sprague is expected to retain the Interim position for a year until a permanent appointment is made.
