Could one Chris S. Sherwin find a seat on the City Council when two chairs become available on April 8?
That became a longshot, but still unofficial, possibility this morning when Mr. Sherwin became the fourth person to pull papers, City Clerk Martin Cole said.
Earlier, both incumbents, Mayor Jeff Cooper, and two-year first term Councilman Jim B. Clarke, pulled papers after the curtain went up on the month-long filing period last Monday.
Christopher Patrick King, realtor and advocate for the homeless – those two ironic commitments are not inter-related – was the third contender to preliminarily declare a run.
Mr. Cole’s office is not expected to need a traffic signal in the remaining three weeks to arrange the flow of contenders.
Speculation is that he has seen the last of them.
Deadline for filing completed documents is Monday, Jan. 13, at 5:30 p.m., one week before Martin Luther King Day.
Although it would be shocking, if either incumbent decides not to run, the extended deadline will be Wednesday, Jan. 22, two days after King Day.
