Sebastian Chairs Hearing on Mental Health Issues

On Friday morning, state Assemblyman Sebastian Ridley-Thomas (D-Culver City/Crenshaw District) will chair an informational hearing of the Assembly Select Committee on Mental and Behavioral Health, a 9:30 program at the African American Museum in Exposition Park. The Select Committee’s goal is to investigate mental and behavioral health challenges and opportunities in implementation of the landmark Prop. 63, the Mental Health Services Act of 2004.

The nine-member Committee will take testimony from representatives of the Special Needs Network, a nonprofit community-based advocacy organization that assists South L.A. children with autism, ADHD and learning disabilities and their families, from Shelton Dent, manager, Programs and Policy Branch, Developmental Disabilities, from Dr. Marvin J. Southard, director of the County Mental Health Dept., and others.

State Sens. Holly Mitchell (D-Culver City/Crenshaw District) and Isadore Hall (D-Inglewood), County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, and AssemblymanJimmy Gomez will discuss mental health

funding issues during a special 8:30 legislative breakfast meeting sponsored by the Special Needs Network.
