As Meghan Sahli-Wells seeks to extend the momentum of her campaign for the City Council through precinct-walking, bicycling, house parties, speak-outs, fundraisers and other events, she is positioning herself to peak just in time for the election on April 13.

Meantime, her campaign reports that it would be an understatement to say that Ms. Sahli-Wells is a busy woman.

While attending City Council sessions, Culver City Committee meetings, candidate forums and other civic events, she is walking and bicycling through Culver City neighborhoods to meet voters, hear their views and concerns, and share her vision for the city.

On the heels of her campaign’s first house party, hosted by Gary Silbiger, Barbara Honig and Karlo Silbiger last Sunday, and its successful fundraiser the following evening at the Downtown restaurant Meet, events are planned for February where the candidate will be speaking to – and hearing from – Culver City residents.

A house party in the Lindberg Park neighborhood will be held at 5 ‘clock on Saturday, Feb. 20. Her campaign said this would be a direct way for Culver City voters to get to know Ms. Saghli-Wells, and an opportunity for her to get to know them, to hear their issues and ideas.

A “Community Speak-Out on Sustainability” the next day, Sunday, Feb. 21, also at 5, will explore ways to encourage city government to make sustainable practices more accessible in Culver City.

As Vice-Chair of Culver City’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan Committee, a steering committee member of Transition Culver City, and a seasoned bicycle commuter, Ms. Sahli-Wells will lead a discussion on ways Culver City can encourage sustainable practices, inviting residents to share their knowledge and their dreams for creating a model green city.

Meanwhile, her Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan Committee will host a workshop this Saturday, from 10 to 1, at the Vets Auditorium, at the intersection of Overland Avenue and Culver Boulevard.

From the start, backers say Ms. Sahli-Wells’ campaign has attracted large numbers of supporters, including government officials and community leaders endorsing her candidacy. Over 100 people attended her ‘Kick-off’ event in November, and the campaign has been gaining momentum ever since.

An experienced community leader, Ms. Sahli-Wells is co-founder of two neighborhood organizations, and currently serves on two City Council-appointed committees: the Advisory Committee on Redevelopment; and the Culver City Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee. She says her candidacy is founded on five principal goals: safe and vital neighborhoods, fiscal health, responsible development, green initiatives, and community participation.
