County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas today announced his endorsement of Measure EE, a Parcel Tax, a Culver City schools funding measure on the Nov. 3 ballot.

If approved by voters, Measure EE would provide a stable source of local funds to support Culver City schools and maintain essential education programs that are presently facing severe reductions due to major state education budget cuts.

“Culver City schools are among the best in L.A. County,” Supervisor Ridley-Thomas said. “Culver City is widely known for its quality K-12 education and noted college preparation for its high school students. State budget cuts threaten Culver City’s ongoing pursuit of excellence in education.

“If Culver City schools fail to raise new local funds, they could be forced to take drastic steps, such as increase class sizes. Culver City could also lose highly regarded classroom teachers. Measure EE will help Culver City generate the local funds that are desperately needed to protect its school programs and maintain its high level of excellence.

“Measure EE would authorize a $96 parcel tax – that would end in five-years – to fund improvements at Culver City schools. The money collected in Culver City would stay in Culver City. None of the school funds would be used to pay salaries of administrators. With Measure EE, Culver City schools would be able to update instructional materials, provide art and music programs, and provide advanced math, science and college-prep courses to more students,” Supervisor Ridley-Thomas said.

“Parcel owners could pay as little as $8 per month to safeguard and maintain quality education for Culver City’s kids. Measure EE is a solid investment in Culver City’s education future.”
Supervisor Ridley-Thomas said Culver City seniors may qualify for an exemption.
