“They make up stuff. They tell lies. They go on Facebook, and they lie, lie, lie. That is the problem with the internet, like YouTube. You can put something on YouTube that is totally false. And there is no recourse. It really is a shame the way society is.”
Rivals of the 62-year-old Mr. Dear learned early in his 14-year tenure that his lusty, rambunctious personality never will allow an accusation to blithely float into the woo-woo stratosphere.
Mr. Dear always is ready to go. He was primed a few hours ago when he was reminded that Hawthorne Mayor Chris Brown had criticized him for being “disrespectful” at last Saturday’s swearing-in ceremony for state Assemblyman Mike Gipson.
No way he could have forgotten.
After all, Mr. Brown had climbed onto the stage after Mr. Dear reminded the large audience that he is running for city clerk on March 3 against Donesia Gause. No physicality occurred.
The mostly black crowd had taken umbrage at umbrage at Mr. Dear’s “out-of-place” remarks, notably since Ms. Gause and Mr. Dear is white, and this was to be Mr. Gipson’s day in the sun. He, too, is black.
