Quiet Zone: School Board at Work Tonight

Contrary to earlier ballyhoo, tonight’s 7 o’clock School Board meeting, previously announced for Lin Howe School — where it will not be held — will amount to, if the City Council will forgive the borrowed concept, an in-house style of Study Session.

Hummingly quiet and decidedly businesslike.

It will be like dropping in on the School Board during a low-key, heads-down session.

In different words, a night for wonks who love to wrestle with the arcane details that need to be addressed before budget cuts can be considered and executed.

No reductions are scheduled for the meeting at School District headquarters on Irving Place.

Instead, the centerpiece of the relatively dry agenda will be a detailed report by David El Fattal, Assistant Superintendent for Business and Finance, who thinks that poring over ledgers is as riveting as reading Evelyn Waugh or Henry James.

The anticipated fireworks will streak across the School Board night sky at 7 next Tuesday evening when a community outpouring will debate the perils of budget cutting.
