Re: “Why LaRose Is in a Hurry-up Mode”
Dave LaRose’s last words were, “It is important to make a decision as soon as possible.”
One week from tomorrow, the superintendent of the School District hopes to, with School Board approval, introduce the new permanent principal of Culver City High School.
With more than 20 applicants for the desk Dr. Dylan Farris left last October whereupon Asst. Principal Dr. Lisa Cooper was promoted – Mr. LaRose said “absolutely” to whittling the list by next week’s self-imposed deadline.
Mr. LaRose makes it sound easy. “There is a series of steps,” he said. “Some of the process is just taking a look from a paper perspective, those who have the experience, qualities, characteristics and the readiness factor for some of the goals and expectations that we have.
“We go through a series of steps that will include the Big Team. They will narrow it down from their perspective. They identify a candidate or candidates-of-choice who would be referred to our IPLC (Irving Place Learning Community, Mr. LaRose and the assistant superintendents), and then I would meet with the recommended candidate with the School Board president (Nancy Goldberg).”
It is the most thoroughgoing attempt in the history of Culver City High School to acquire exactly the right principal.
“Not only is it a process of candidates and the team identifying the person with the qualities and characteristics that we need now, and moving forward, but we joke it is also a test of their stamina,” Mr. LaRose said with a chuckle. “Yes, there are a number of steps along the way.”
