Dateline Sacramento — New Gov. Jerry Brown will give the keynote address at the annual MLK Jr. Civil Rights Leadership Awards Breakfast, hosted by the California Legislative Black Caucus, on Thursday morning, Jan. 20, at 7:30 at the Sheraton Grand Hotel.
Said Sen. Curren D, Price (D-Culver City), the newly elected chair of the Legislative Black Caucus:
“It is an honor to have our governor start the new year with the African American community, breaking bread and celebrating civil rights leaders past and present.
“Indeed, California has made civil rights history this year with the inauguration of Kamala D. Harris, the first African American, the first woman and the first southeast Asian to become California’s Attorney General.
Ms. Harris and Gov. Brown both have exemplary records of commitment to social justice. The California Legislative Black Caucus looks forward to working with them to make our state a place where all Californians experience social justice and equality of opportunity.”
Two awards will be presented at the breakfast.
Linda Crayton, senior Regional Director of Government Affairs for the Comcast Corp., will accept the Corporate Community Advocacy Award for using her influence to give voice to minority communities.
Areva D. Martin, co-founder and President of the Special Needs Network, will receive the Civil Rights Leadership Award for promoting equality in healthcare and increasing awareness of autism.
