Tonight is the night, regardless of the rainy, chilly weather.
At 7 this evening, the city of Culver City will conduct its 5th annual Community-Wide Disaster Drill.
Participation in the disaster drill includes completion of a family disaster plan, putting together a disaster supply kit, knowing the location of utility shut offs, and utilizing the “OK” sign to signal emergency personnel.
Sharply at 7, personnel from the Culver City Fire Dept., Police Dept., the Community Emergency Response Team, CERT, the Culver City Amateur Radio Emergency Services, CCARES, and other city departments, will be practicing their disaster plans.
They will be patrolling city streets and neighborhoods.
And they will be counting the OK signs.
Counts will be reported back to a mobile command center, which will be at Tellefson Park, at the corner of Washington Place and Tilden Avenue, near the King Fahad Msque.
Residents are encouraged to join city officials at Tellefson Park to see, first-hand, a disaster operation in motion.
As the 7 o’clock hour nears, City Hall is emphasizing the theme, “Emergency Preparedness Begins with You.”
Assistant Fire Chief Chris Sellers reminds anybody wishing to participate in the drill that all relevant information may be found at http://www.culvercity.org/safety.
