Re “What Does Ferguson Do for a Hometown Chief’s Digestive Tract?”

“Personal relationships, sitting down and having meals together, those kinds of experiences go a lot further than someone standing in the front of the room saying, ‘No, no. Here is what happened,’” Mr. Bixby said.

“It is important to get to everybody I possibly can in this  community, even the peripheral, too.

“Many times what happens is, there is a serious incident and it is not just your community you are dealing with, but with other people.”

The police chief went on to say that as he watches what happened in Ferguson, and now on Staten Island, “my take is that what happened in those places is not a different world. It is the world we all live in.

“I have to be as vigilant as possible. We are trying to be accessible and available, meet with every community entity I can get my hands on.”
