Remediation of the ammonia hazard at the darkened Culver City Ice Arena could be completed as soon as Friday or possibly the weekend, City Hall sources said this morning.
The designated cleanup company evidently has been contacted. “They will make arrangements to get the crew doing the work mobilized,” a source told the newspaper.
“Depends on the location and availability of equipment, but it is possible it could be done by the weekend.”
The ammonia will be removed, the refrigeration system will be turned off and the ice will be taken apart.
Landlord Mike Karagozian is expected to be contacted this afternoon to be involved in the process.
“Mr. Karagozian will have the opportunity to do it himself, if he acts promptly,” the source said.
City Manager John Nachbar and others made it plain that they will not tarry in the presence of an officially ruled public health threat.
