The embattled president of Pasadena City College, Dr. Mark Rocha, and the school’s general counsel, Gail S. Cooper, often thought of as a team, known to some wits as Mr. and Mrs. Ugly for their perceived hardline manner of governing, no longer are together.

She is out and he reportedly has been advised not to send out his laundry, that next week may be his closing day.

It was reported yesterday, though not formally confirmed, that the unusually unpopular Ms. Cooper, wading for months in deep, steaming legal liquids, got the axe on Wednesday.

“The story,” a source tells the newspaper, “is that Cooper’s mother is ill and that she is taking a leave. We do not believe it. Nothing is on the school newspaper website, and there was no newspaper yesterday.”

Said a smiling, almost jubilant, veteran faculty member: “This is a very happy day at PCC for students and faculty members.”

Elsewhere, more problems loom for president. The Academic Senate, long at bitter odds with Dr. Rocha, has voted to make the president's evaluations public. Those will be available starting next Thursday in the Senate's office in hard-copy. The committee will be delivering them to the Board of Trustees on Wednesday.”
