Accompanied by a bail bondsman, Mr. Singerman posted the $60,000 bail.

But, as 5 o’clock arrived, he still was being detained at the Police Station, awaiting the electronic return of finger print results.

He faces a felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly flattening Mr. O’Leary with one heaving shot to the face around 2 a.m. Sunday.

It was closing time at Mr. O’Leary’s Irish pub, Joxer Daly’s, and the Councilman, according to police, was attempting to escort Mr. Singerman out the door, reportedly against his will, when thunder struck.

Police say the pair had just passed through the rear exit when the 28-year-old Mr. Singerman, weighing nearly 300 pounds, punched the face of the Councilman, who is in his mid-40s and weighs about 175.

Mr. O’Leary has been hospitalized ever since with a badly battered face, numerous broken bones. He is reportedly scheduled for surgery, possibly as early as Thursday.

Mr. Singerman’s arraignment may not take place until October.
