Petitioners in the landmark Baldwin Hills Oil Field settlement case returned to court this morning at their own request.
While the signing by the bitterly warring parties, the drilling company PXP vs. the people of Culver Crest and points southward, was declared last week, Ken Kutcher, attorney for one party of petitioners, explained the procedure:
“We asked Judge (James C.) Chalfant to stay the case for 180 days rather than dismissing the case at this point so we can be certain no third p[arties challenge the settlement agreement that has been entered into. The reason is: The settlement agreement involves PXP and the County, but not all of the other landowners who were also real parties, which is sort of the equivalent of defendants.”
