Re “El Rincon Students Plunge with Vigor into ‘Random Acts Week’”
As Random Acts of Kindness hits its stride on Day Three on the El Rincon Elementary campus, Ali McCann, one of the spearheading parents, mentioned what will surely be an emotional, richly fulfilling highlight.
“The third grade wanted to do a special project, not individually, but as a class,” Ms. McCann said.
“Since they have been learning about the Revolutionary War, they decided to write letters to deployed soldiers.”
The mother’s face started to dampen.
Here is how it works.
The family of an El Rincon student has a sister in the military stationed in Kuwait.
“The soldier has been contacted,” Ms. McCann said. “Students will write letters, and they will send a Care package.”
The further plan is to arrange a Skype call between the soldier and El Rincon third-graders once the Care package has been delivered.
“And,” said Ms. McCann with a hearty smile, “this ties into the curriculum. Can’t ask for more than that, can you?”
Principal Reggie Brunson, whose major role in this project is not to be diminished, said, almost offhandedly, “These parents have done a fabulous job” of planning and organizing Random Acts of Kindness Week.
