How do you know Election Season has arrived?
Scott Zeidman, School Board member-elect,
announced this afternoon he is joining 11 former Culver City mayors, four of the five current City Council members, School Board member Jessica Beagles-Roos and fellow Board member-elect Steve Gourley, in endorsing Andy Weissman for a seat on the City Council next April.
“Andy is bright, informed and involved,” said Mr. Zeidman, the leading votegetter in this month’s School Board election.
“My gosh. It seems like Andy’s been in Culver City since the days of Harry Culver.”
Actually, the 57-year old Mr. Weissman was not born until four years after Mr. Culver died in 1946.
“Andy has done almost as much for the city as Mr. Culver did,” Mr. Zeidman added.
Weissman Background
The City Council candidate’s Culver City pedigree is lengthy, from his service on the Planning Commission, to his prior service on the Human Services and Parks Commission and the Civil Service Commission.
Mr. Weissman chaired Culver City’s Charter Review Committee, and he is the current President of the Downtown Business Assn.
He also has actively participated in the city’s Homelessness Ad Hoc Committee, is a former President of the Culver City Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the past chairman of both the Fiesta La Ballona Committee and the Culver-Palms YMCA.
“Andy’s community involvement speaks volumes,” Mr. Zeidman said. “There is no doubt he has put in his time.
“But Andy’s past work is not the reason I am endorsing him.
“He is a product of Culver City. He is a graduate of our school system, and he knows his way around the bureaucracy. Our city needs strong, intelligent leaders. Andy is such a leader. He is perfect for the job. There is no question, Andy has my full support and endorsement.”
Mr. Zeidman, who never has publicly endorsed any political candidate, is set to be sworn in as a member of the School Board on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 7 at School District headquarters, 4034 Irving Pl.
That meeting, as with all other regularly scheduled School Board meetings, is open to the public.
