[img]1988|right|Alan Corlin||no_popup[/img]The long absent stentorian tones of the tall and distinguished former City Councilman Alan Corlin are returning as he assists with the School Board campaign of his virtually lifetime friend Dr. Steve Levin.
Mr. Corlin speaks of him in brotherly tones before drilling deeper into hometown politics and speaking with typical edgy candor about the state of Culver City.
For a moment at Dr. Levin’s Sunday afternoon campaign event in the garden setting of the Jackson Market, Mr. Corlin reeled back his memory to childhood times.
He talked about going trick-or-treating with Dr. Levin’s sister Sandi, who grew up to become the mayor of Culver City a decade and a half ago.
“I was the chaperone,” said Mr. Corlin. “Halfway home, she fell asleep and I had to carry her home. The difference in ages between Sandi and me are about the same as between my brother (a former American Medical Assn. president) and me. My brother was friends with her father.
“That is how I met the Levin family. I have known Steve since he was 5,” a scant 49 years ago. “I have known (brother) Alan (Mr. Corlin’s longtime business partner) since he was 9 or 10.”
Those who know Mr. Corlin best, and his penchant for speaking with candor, realized he was just warming up, threatening to surpass the warm thermometer on a late summer’s day.
