Controversial youth swim coach Patrick Moran today issued his first public statement since the City Council voted last week to summarily terminate the contract Mr. Moran and his Edge Swim Team had to use The Plunge outdoor pool.
He declined to enlarge on the 227-word open letter except to indicate that the thrust of his remarks were contained in the headline with which he closed out:
“Heart of Screenland” City Council Votes Out Kids’ Diverse-Outreach Program.
The team and Mr. Moran, its public face in Culver City for the last six years, were handed a 30-day notice to vacate The Plunge before Thanksgiving.
Four reasons, mostly related to Mr. Moran’s alleged conduct, were listed by the city as reasons for ending the six-year relationship a little more than three months after striking a new agreement.
The reasons were: “Repeated uncooperative nature with the city; interactions with city staff that were perceived as hostile; interactions with city residents, which were perceived as hostile; Edge use of the pool is inconsistent with the Agreement.”

I found out about the Council’s vote Thursday morning and the newspaper articles mid-day. We owe lots and lots of gratitude. But if I were to start listing folks now, we’d be here awhile. I will look for ways to serve each of you in the days ahead.
Right now, I have concerns:
What is it about this children’s swim team? They are the top revenue provider at the pool. They seem tied to this fast-growing swim-as-entertainment phenomena. Why would majority Council, specifically Alan Corlin, have such a hard time with a group like that?
They tell you, “It’s about him; that Patrick T. Moran.” Yet, we have made multiple attempts, over many months, to separate me from the club. We can document that objective truth through our Corporate Counsel, Joey M. Lynch. She can also document that we have been fully compliant in all aspects, for many months. So I find accusations, dating seven years, against me now…curious.
