[Editor’s Note: The President of the Teachers Union addressed this dispatch to his members.]

Brothers and sisters,

There is a special Board meeting today in the Multipurpose Room between Culver City High School and the Middle School at 4:30.

The only item on the agenda is the hiring of our new Superintendent.

A number of you have expressed concern that, while this may the right candidate, the salary is wrong ($201,000).

While the overall compensation package (salary plus benefits) is probably less than Myrna Coté’s, we are concerned that the base salary of our Superintendent's position is moving from $185,000 to $201,000. In the event that Patti Jaffe retires, the next Supe will apply for a position with that higher base salary.

In a year where CCUSD's opening bargaining proposal to us called for pay cuts, this is not right.

I will be there there encouraging the School Board to vote “No” on this contract and to ask them to go back to the drawing board with Mrs. Jaffe and rework this contract.

Teachers who wish to attend and speak need to be on time! The meeting will be short. Sorry about the short notice. See you there. Dave
