“The people of Culver City understand that the bond is important, that we care about our kids, and they are going to vote for it,” he said.

Along Irving Place, in and around District headquarters, surging confidence is running almost at fever level. Dissenters are lurking in the shadows, if they are that close.

Dr. Levin was on the other side of the desk last July 1 when the first bond campaign was submarined in a 3-2 Board vote. Two of the three kill-the-bond backers no longer are on the Board.

Dr. Levin talked about the difference between the abortive attempt last summer and the momentum-heavy present drive for passage.

“We are a little better prepared this time,” he said. “We have a different set of people on the School Board. They  have a little bit different understanding about the bond. People have had a chance to demonstrate their interest and their willingness to pass a bond. The community is pretty unified with coming together behind this, which is a great thing.”

Ten months later, is the community better informed about what has grown to be a record $106 million bond?

“It is certainly true they are,” he said. “We spent a lot of time over the summer… The School District has spent a lot of time informing people about what the needs are, and we have talked about the bond many, many times since then.”
