Mark Scott, one of the most popular of Culver City’s recent city managers, despite a brief stay here, made it official this morning at a press conference that he is returning to the Los Angeles area.

Downtown Burbank.

Three years and two months after departing Culver City for his hometown of Fresno, to be near his ailing parents – his father since has died – Mr. Scott, 63 years old,  said this morning that he is moving into the city manager’s chair in one of America’s best known small towns, Burbank.

Yesterday afternoon, the Burbank City Council came to agreement with Mr. Scott, who previously worked in Clovis, Beverly Hills, Spartanburg, SC, and nine months in Culver City, where he quickly connected with leaders and residents.

From City Hall this morning, City Councilman Andy Weissman, who knew Mr. Scott well, told the newspaper:

“I had the pleasure of serving as mayor during Mark's tenure in Culver City in 2010. Mark worked well with the City Council while he was here, and he was just growing comfortable with the culture of Culver City and his role as City Manager when he was compelled to leave Culver City to attend to the care of his ailing parents. We regretted losing him, but benefited from his service, brief though it was. I know he regretted leaving Culver City, but I was happy he came to the Mayor's Luncheon last April.   Now that his family circumstances have changed (his father passed away and his mother is living with his daughter), Mark had the opportunity to move back to Southern California, where he spent most of his career.  It sounds like an excellent move for him. I wish him well in Burbank. I hope that we continue to stay in touch.”
