Re “Could Be a Happy Marriage – Mandell and a Microphone”

The weekly Culver City’s Boulevard Music Summer Festival hits the halfway mark at 7 this evening in the Courtyard of City Hall when the John Jorgenson Bluegrass Band brings country to the city.

Has it been a successful season?

“Yes.”

Because?

“People seem to be enjoying it, judging by the audience feedback. Last week (for the Beach Boys imitation band) the crowd was all the way out to the sidewalk and going both ways.”

Last week Mr. Mandell was observing, not with a smile, that his contract with City Hall called for him to clean the grounds after the third and sixth weeks of performances, but the city later wanted him to clean up every week.

He objected.

And now?

He persuaded City Hall to adjust its mind.

“The city is doing spot cleaning in between,” Mr. Mandell said.

“By that I mean, don’t clean the while thing if it doesn’t need it. Clean only the areas that need it. We have a water shortage. Lead by example.”
