Seeking to make a seamless transition back to the City Council where he has spent 72 of the past 74 months, Scott Malsin this afternoon was asked how he has readied himself for tonight’s 7 clock Candidates Forum for the Democratic Club at the Senior Center.
He sounded in midseason form.
“I have spent the past month honing my message,” he said. “Essentially, I will tell them my experience, my proven skills and leadership I have demonstrated over the past years are what Culver City needs now to overcome the challenges we are going to be facing in the years ahead.”
Mr. Malsin identified “two critical challenges. One is purely financial, finding a way to put the city onto a course of financial sustainability. Secondly, we must figure a way we can continue the progress we have been able to make without having the vehicle of the Redevelopment Agency to make it happen.
“Those happen to be areas where I have demonstrated a particular expertise. I understand how we can utilize the Zoning Code to help fulfill the vision that we have developed together for our community.
“I have a very good head for business,” Mr. Malsin said. “While the city is not purely a business, running a city is like running a non-profit. You need to be able to balance budgets, to prioritize. You will apply a lot of elements related to business. But it also requires a balance between running it and understanding what your goals are.
“Finally, you need to understand the ultimate goal is to have a solvent entity that provides the best services, the best quality of life.”
