It is official. City Councilmember Scott Malsin was the first candidate to file to be on the April 13 ballot for the Council election.
Monday was the first day candidates could pull the paperwork for the four-months-away election.
Continuing a tradition of one eager candidate reporting to the City Clerk’s office at City Hall in the first moment of legal registration, Mr. Malsin was followed by two of the announced candidates — Robert Zirgulis and Meghan Sahli-Wells. The only other announced candidate, Jeff Cooper, has indicated he will check in with the Clerk’s office tomorrow, Christmas Eve.

More than 30 supporters greeted Mr. Malsin at Starbucks Coffee to sign his nomination papers. The mood, naturally, was upbeat and enthusiastic.
Flanked by the group, Mr. Malsin walked back to City Hall, where he officially filed the documents with the City Clerk's office.
The first-term Councilman said he was encouraged by the strong response his candidacy has received from all corners of the city.
Reflecting on the last 3 1/2 years, Mr. Malsin said that they “have been filled with exciting change for Culver City. I’m proud of the progress we've made. I believe in strong, responsible fiscal management and ‘big-picture thinking.’
“Those are the values that have helped us secure $50 million in state funding for our Expo Line Station, undertake the exciting renovation of Westfield Culver City, foster a thriving Downtown, create forward-thinking programs to ‘green’ Culver City, and much more.”
