Dave LaRose, an educator who has worked and gone to school all over the country, as far east as Vermont and most recently in Washington state, is the School District’s new Superintendent, succeeding Patti Jaffe, who closes out her 42-year career this afternoon on Irving Place.
Mr. LaRose will be introduced to the community at the Tuesday, July 17, meeting of the School Board, at 6 o’clock at District headquarters. Aug. 1 will be his opening day at work with the District.
For the past four years, Mr. LaRose has served as the superintendent of the South Kitsap School District in Washington. He made a favorable impression. He was recently named South Kitsap’s Man of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce, and received the Kitsap Scouting Service to Youth Award last year.
In 2009 for his systemic and strategic approach to meeting the needs of all students, Mr. LaRose received the Washington State Assn. for Supervision and Curriculum Development Whole Child Award.
A strong advocate for the whole child, he said he believes that for every child to succeed, a community must ensure they are healthy, safe, engaged, supported, challenged and hopeful.
Prior to South Kitsap, Mr. LaRose worked as a teacher and administrator in Arizona. He earned both a bachelor’s degree in elementary education in Vermont, from Lyndon State College in Lyndonville, and a master’s degree in education from Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tenn.
“Our School District will be in such great hands with a leader like Dave who understands the connectivity between school, home, and community,” said School Board President Karlo Silbiger. “He will really elevate our focus on what’s best for kids in all aspects of their lives.”
The School Board will approve Mr. LaRose’s multi-year contract at the July 10 School Board meeting on Irving Place.
