Blake Sr. of West Angeles Church of God in Christ in South Los Angeles, one of the largest churches in the western United States with 25,000 members.

Bishop Blake is the presiding bishop over the General Assembly of the Church of God in Christ, Inc. He was appointed by President Obama to serve on the White House Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnership.

This morning, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), District Council 36, announced its endorsement of Mr. Harris-Dawson in his bid for the 8th Los Angeles City Council District seat. AFSCME District Council 36, headquartered in Los Angeles, represents 22,000 public service workers and 50 affiliated local unions throughout Southern California.  Thousands of working and retired public service employees live in the 8th Council District.

“Marqueece has a long history in neighborhood organizing,” said Alice Goff, president of AFSCME District Council 36. “He understands public services are critical to the quality of life in local neighborhoods.

“We are happy to support a candidate who values public service employees and the role we play in making families safe and communities strong in Los Angeles.”

Seking to succeed termed-out Bernard Parks on March 3, Mr. Harris-Dawson is the President and CEO of the Community Coalition, a civil rights group in South L.A. that organizes and advocates for better schools, safer neighborhoods, a fair share of services and a local government that is more responsive to the people.
